Taxonomy of Memory is a series of eighteen watercolors that returns to a childhood dress. Garments connected to family memory become a way to explore how personal recollections carry cultural experience.
Through repetition and variation, the dress changes with each image. Soft color transitions, floral details and forms approaching abstraction suggest the shifting nature of memory.
Uncool Gallery includes Taxonomy of Memory: Soft Gradients and Near Abstraction from the “Taxonomy of Memory” Series in Across the Americas, an online exhibition on Artsy that considers how cultural memory travels across generations and geography.
